We interviewed Latheefa Sheriff, a #teacher with the toddler room at our Mushrif branch #InAbuDhabi as part of our ‘five minutes with’ series: Q. What is your favourite thing about being a nursery teacher? Seeing the changes in a child as they grow, develop and achieve their learning goals and also when they share their ‘wow’ moments. I enjoy seeing them achieve milestones like developing confidence, speaking their first words, joining in with play and making friends. Q. What does your day look like? I set up the classroom with the team to ensure that it is a stimulating environment for the children; I greet children and their parents, share information and have fun with the children as they learn through play. Q. What’s the funniest thing a child has said to you recently? When we were talking about babies recently, a child said, “My mummy has a small tummy and is bringing a baby, but daddy has a big tummy”. Q. Describe the healthiest lunch box you saw today? Avocado, fruit yogurt, organic fruit juice and oats with kale. Q. Tell us about the age of children you like to look after and your favourite daily activity? I have 2 favourite age groups, 1-2 and 3-4 year olds. My favourite activity with 1-2 year olds is when they mimic our music choreography - they are very sweet. With 3-4 year olds, my favourite activities are ‘Circle Time’ and ‘Role Play’ because you can have a conversation with the children and they express themselves intelligently and ask lots of interesting questions.
